Polypropylene is a safe material to use as a filter between two pieces of cotton or linen fabric. According to the Government of Canada, face masks should be made of at least 2 layers of fabric with one filter (such asnon-woven polypropylene fabric) in between (3 layers of material in total). Filters, such as non-woven polypropylene, add extra protection by trapping small particles of infectious material. For more information, please read the complete list of mask requirements here.
Note: This material has a melting point of approximately 320. Do NOT use iron directly on the mask filter material. If you must iron your project, be sure to use a low heat setting and a pressing sheet or other heat barrier.
